The StrideR
About
The Strider is a speculative design animation that explores the ecological niches of often overlooked fauna and how their roles would be filled if their habitats were threatened. The work was inspired by the potential for a futuristic strider-like replacement needing additional mobility due to habitat decline. This robotic bug is able to transform between a water strider and a floating dandelion seed to allow movement over air and water. The work was inspired by the unique, complex methods of movement these creatures developed and predominantly focuses on the underwater vortexes and surface disturbances that allow water striders to move. It utilizes sculpted booleans and fluid dynamics to accurately simulate the water vortexes created from each jump.
